Throughout his career Leandro Erlich has challenged the certainty of appearances. In Hybrids, presented as a collateral event of the 2026 Venice Biennale, the Argentine artist moves beyond optical illusion to imagine a world in which nature, architecture and the human body merge into entirely new organisms. Curated by Marcello Dantas, the exhibition features around twenty sculptures, including several new works created for Venice. Corals resemble cities, cabbages become architecture, trees grow into human feet and butterflies unfold wings shaped like ears. These impossible yet strangely familiar creatures suggest that artistic creation follows the same transformative processes found in evolution itself. Installed within Carlo Scarpa's celebrated Olivetti Showroom in Piazza San Marco, the sculptures establish a compelling dialogue with one of Italy's masterpieces of modern architecture and design. Rather than presenting visual paradoxes, Hybrids invites visitors to imagine reality as an endless process of transformation.
