Ferdinando Scianna al Ghetto di Venezia | Courtesy IKONA Venezia
Ten years after the project created for the 500th anniversary of the Venice Ghetto, IKONA Gallery presents once again the photographic series that Ferdinando Scianna dedicated to one of the city's most historically significant places. First shown in 2016 at Casa dei Tre Oci, the images now return to the heart of the Ghetto Nuovo, where they engage directly with the environment that inspired them. Through his distinctive black-and-white photography, Scianna portrays the Ghetto as a living place shaped by everyday life and historical memory. More than a documentary project, the exhibition reflects on photography as a form of knowledge and on the relationship between personal vision and collective history. Faces, streets, architecture and gestures become part of a visual narrative that captures both continuity and change. The exhibition also highlights Scianna's long-standing connection with Venice, a city that has repeatedly appeared throughout his photographic journey.
