With Roberto Matta, discovering an art outside the box

Work by Roberto Matta

Roberto Sebastián Antonio Matta Echaurren (Santiago de Cile, 1911 - Civitavecchia, 2002), despite being one of the most important artists of the 20th century, is not among the best known to the general public. The exhibition at Ca’ Pesaro starts with two extraordinary masterpieces by the artist belonging to the Museum’s Collection, aiming to make known not only his abilities as a talented painter, but above all to shed light on the scope of his work and his thought. Matta, who began as an architect gaining experience in Le Corbusier’s Parisian atelier, in addition to being a brilliant painter and draftsman, worked with the most disparate materials, such as clay, wood and metal, managing through his works to explore and express a vast range of ideas and approaches to scientific, cultural and philosophical knowledge.
